from Lawrence, Sunday PhiloMadrid meeting: Equity + News

Dear Friends,
This week we are discussing Equity.
A rather nebulous term, but in a court of law, at least an English court of law, it was the last
attempt for justice to be made. In many cases it worked. For example we owe the right of our money
back for faulty goods we buy from a Scottish case (Donoghue) that was basically decided in favour of
the plaintiff and this established the principle of duty of care to a party not privy to a contact.
The question we have to ask is what is equity outside the context of a court of law? We know it is
something to do with being good, but what exactly?
In the meantime some messages:
--------------------Ceit--------------------
Hi Lawrence,
Over the weekend I saw a poster advertising a production of Marlowe's Faust at Teatros Canal. I
don't know if it's something that interests many people, but it certainly interests me.
Unfortunately, I can only attend on Saturdays because of my TOEFL course. But, if others are
interested maybe we could meet for a drink or something before or after. I plan on going on March 3
and Blanca thought she might go too. There is a discount for large groups, but it needs to be 20 or
more people. Here's the link: http://www.teatroscanal.com/1000357000101/doctor-faustus__1.html
See you Sunday
