from Lawrence, SUNDAY PhiloMadrid meeting at 6:30pm: Time

Dear Friends,

Way back in April 2013 we discussed Time, which is also the topic of the
meeting this Sunday.

You can also find at this link an Essay by Ruel and a shorter one by me.

In my essay I asked the question whether time was some objective, maybe
in the same way that gravity is an objective entity, or something we
extrapolate with our brain. Maybe something we do to understand the
world around us.

Maybe we can go a step further, and now ask why are we obsessed with
time? I don't mean shall we arrive on time for a meeting, but rather:
why are we bothered by what happened in the past or what will happen in
the future?

And then there is the Hollywood aspect of time: time travel, imagining
what the world and humans will be like in 10,000 years time, going back
in time and speculate what life was like and so on. Much closer to home,
why do we feel that sometimes time passes quickly and other times not so
quickly?

Best Lawrence
