PhiloMadrid Skype meeting: WEDNESDAY 6th September 9:30pm: What is news? + News (5items)

Next on-lone meeting Wednesday 6th September 2023 at 9:30pm + NEWS (5 items)

Dear Friends,

Our next on-line meeting will be on the 6th September 2023 at 9:30pm and
the topic is: What is news?

The "news" I was thinking of is the news we see on TV news programmes,
read in newspapers and listen on the radio. But what are the
philosophical issues about news?

What is news? Short essay/ideas

NEWS 01 – back to Sunday meetings in person
During our get together meetings at the Retiro we all agreed that we
should try and return to meeting in person on Sundays. Indeed Pedro is
once again trying to see if we can return to the Clavel, but this can
take some time.

But if you know of a suitable place for us in Madrid please let me know
to investigate the option; just in case.

NEWS 02 – On-line meetings
Given that during the Covid years many people joined the meeting from
outside Madrid, I propose that if there is enough demand we can organise
an on-line meeting as well during the week or whenever and more
flexible. So please let me know what you think.

NEWS 03 – Next get together at the Retiro Saturday 2nd September 2023

I'll send separate details for our next Retiro meeting. As long as the
weather holds, maybe, we can meet more often.

NEWS 04 – Book by Diego
Diego has sent me details about his published Manifesto: The Beehive
Complex: Dare to Dance in the Dark and Rejoice in the Most Astonishing
of Illusions.

The Beehive Complex is available here: https://amzn.eu/d/9U4AwmH
It's a short book and to the point!

BUT: "Amazon allowed me to run a promo by which the ebook will be free
if purchased between Sept 1 and Sept 5. Might be a good way for
PhiloMadrid members to get a free copy." Diego.

NEWS 05 – Don't forget the books by other members
--Un giro en el aire
Lucinda Maxwell (Teresa)
Also from Amazon.es ( https://amzn.eu/d/a6RY3AP )

--Oscar's book is now available from Oscar himself:
"Toranzo, 88 ilustraciones y coplillas" by Oscar at €35

--It is with great sadness that I have learnt Julian Martelli passed
away early in October this year, 2022. Julian was very active during our
meetings in Molly Malone and participation was always respected by all.
Christine kindly wants to share with us a photo of Julian with her and
friends. You can find the FaceBook link below.

I also include a link for our visit to Toledo in 2008 when Julian came
with us on the day trip.

--Jorge has kindly sent us the link to his book which is available for
Free Distribution at:
Evolution of Thought and its Influence on Society and Technology

Please let me know if you need the Skype link: preferably by WhatsApp.

Best and take care
